Anil Kumar was born in Bihar, India. He worked as a CIHR postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. G. Andrew Woolley at the Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto, Canada. He earned his PhD in 2009 from Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India working under the supervision of Prof. Susheel Durani. He did his M.Sc. (Organic) Chemistry in 2002 from University of Delhi, India.
As a postdoctoral Fellow Awardee of CIHR Training Program in Protein Folding at Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto, he has successfully designed several photoswitchable protein based on photoactive yellow protein (PYP) and Light-oxygen-voltage sensing (LOV) domains by modifying the backbone so that insertion of bioactive peptides can be done and have an opportunity to understand the photoswitchable proteins as powerful tools for external manipulation and probing of complex biochemical processes.
He uses experimental, computational and theoretical approaches to pursue his scientific queries. He has experience of over ~14 years as the scientific researcher in Chemical biology and organic chemistry (Biophysics/Biochemistry).
